interests and hobbies!
this website is under construction
So as you may already be able to tell (from the fact that I am even doing any of this) I like technology and making stuff work. I tend to go down "rabbit holes", where I start doing research into a topic and then get engrossed and want to learn as much as I can. This often leads to long nights on forums and Wikipedia pages when I should be sleeping.
I'll divide this page into categories, rather than spewing everything out into a single wall of text.
Computers
My interest in computers started in September of 2020. For whatever reason, I decided that my PS4 (That I had since launch in 2013) was no longer enough, and I wanted to build a gaming PC.
I remember that the first YouTube video I watched following this decision was one of Austin Evans' "How to Build a Gaming PC" video. That Christmas, I ended up getting all of the parts needed for a computer and built it on Christmas day, beginning a hobby that has stayed with me and shaped many aspects of my life. (I am still using the same motherboard, RAM and SSD now in 02/2025!)
Between now and then I have replaced the majority of the parts in that computer, spent hours and hours helping people in /r/buildapc and helped spec/build computers for three of my friends. I still have an interest in gaming computers, however this has been a bit dampened by the current state of the computer hardware market as well as other interests taking over.
Networking
My interests in network followed on from my interest in computers. I think my first networking endeavour was trying to use an old Raspberry Pi I had lying around as a PiHole DNS server. This led to running a VPN server on it, requiring port forwarding, and soon I was pestering my parents to buy a better internet router.
Networking became a much bigger hobby in 2024 when I got an internship with the networking engineer of a pharmaceutical site near where I live. This coincided with a boost in my homelab interests which I'll move on to next.
